Supt Homer Barnes announced a bond election for 260000 to fund a new Meadow Elementary building with 12 classrooms a cafeteria a modern gym and offices. A bond rally is planned in the high school auditorium at 8 p m with a picture show and Q A session. Absentee ballots are available at the County Clerk's office in Brownfield.
Brownfield Country Club president Jack Shirley announced nine committees and chairmen for the coming year. Mrs. Roy Wingerd will be historian and house committee chairman. Others include Budget and Finance John L. Cruce Greens Prentice Walker Tournament and Publicity Jerry Stoltz Social and Entertainment Jerry Kirschner Membership Dick Chambers Swimming Pool Tennis and Playground Thurman King Grounds Beautification Lee O. Allen.
Brownfield High School freshman Bobbie Quigg was named Miss Valentine in the Rebekah Lodge contest in Lubbock Friday night. She received a wristwatch and a bouquet of red roses after placing ahead of 10 other contestants. Quigg will appear on the Lions Talent Revue tonight and sang A Good Man is Hard to Find.
The second annual Lions Talent Revue begins at 7 30 this evening in the high school auditorium featuring the Brownfield Community Chorus under Fred Smith, guest singer Sonny Curtis, and the Starlight Exhibition Dance team. Thirty three acts include junior high and adult contestants, a chorus showcase, solos, duets, a tumbling act, and tap numbers from local performers.
The Citizens Traffic Commission and Chamber of Commerce announce the annual banquet at the Jessie G. Randal cafeteria starting at 7 30 PM. Dr Charles Korsakoff will speak on Behind the Tron Curtain and Lions Club Talent Revue winners will perform. Profits and tickets support public safety and volunteer community work.
Brownfield City Council awarded bids totaling 12 960.80 this week and 12 800 in mineral lease bonuses. A five year mineral lease on 320 acres sold to Union Sulphur & Oil Co for 40 per acre bonus and 1 per year rental. C B Anderson Co Amarillo won 5.20 per unit for five way street markets with 50 day delivery. R A Robinson & Co Lubbock won 10140 for power plant foundation, same firm previously did the annex.
Two drillstem tests on the Humble Oil & Refining Co No 1 Mattye S Thompson 10 100 foot east offset to the Tokio Wolfcamp field discovery well show no oil gas or water this week. The Humble project in extreme western Terry county tested from 8600 8679 feet and from 9676 8757 feet. Drilling continues in sand below 8794 feet. Location is 669 feet from south and west lines of Section 42 Blk K 4 miles south of Toktoy. Anderson Prichard Oil Corp No 1 Rich 2 miles east of Wellman in Section 15 is reported drilling below 12167 feet.
Dallas Powell of Plains won the grand champion calf at the Yoakum County Livestock Show, weighing 935 pounds and selling for 1.05 per pound to Yoakum County State Bank of Denver City, with the prize accompanied by a Hereford heifer gift from M. W. Luna.
Mrs Theda Baggett announces her bid for the District Clerk post saying she is capable of performing duties though not yet familiar with them She has served the public as a grocery clerk in Collins and Kyle and has lived in Brownfield all her life pledging to continue residency if elected She authorized the NEWS to publish the statement this week
Randal-West Ward P-TA marked its 57th founding anniversary with the Founders Day tea in the Randal cafeteria. Mrs John Happ spoke on The Meaning of Founder Day and Mrs Jake Gore on The PTA Keeps Faith With America.

Police warn parents after juvenile acts. dogs poisoned with meat scraps trigger headlines as 16 to 40 canines are treated. a city ordinance bans air rifles within limits.
Dylena Ellison announces the opening of Duncan Ellison Photography in the Brownfield News building at 409 W. Hill. Ellison has broad photography experience including portraits and weddings and will photograph Brownfield News events in the future. He is a Texas Tech graduate, Army and Navy veteran, and member of multiple local and regional photography and service organizations.
