D L Pemberton named fund chairman for the Terry County Red Cross drive set to begin in March. The goal is 4144 dollars with Clyde Bond Jr and Malcolm Thomason as assistants. A board meeting in the Health Unit auditorium discussed drive plans and the blood program with Red Cross field representative Miss Jean Fitzimmons of Lubbock in attendance. Terry County officers include Mrs Walter Hord as chapter chairwoman and others serving as secretary treasurer disaster and nursing chairs.

Strange Blast Caused By Boys at Caliche Pit
City Police report a blast last Wednesday night from 25 pounds of dynamite set off by two boys at the caliche pit near Payeee Rodeo grounds. No damage reported but investigators seek the dynamite source. Two fires in town caused damage: a trailer house on Lubbock Road due to a butane leak injuring four and destroying belongings. a North Second Street barn fire started possibly by boys.

Funeral services for J. O. Thompson aged 74 long time Terry County resident were conducted Tuesday at the First Baptist Church. He arrived in the county in 1924 and died Sunday evening. Survived by four daughters Mrs Troy Noel Brownfield Harvey Lee Thompson California Mrs Marie Templeton Amarillo Mrs Lorena Chetwood Dallas Mrs Jeanne Trumble Athens South Carolina. 15 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Burial followed services with Rev Jones Weathers officiating.

Brownfield Jaycees announce a two day Terry and Yoakum County Livestock Show on April 17-18 with calves and hogs shown and no sheep this year. Tentative plans include an implement show and contest among dealers Saturday morning. Boys bring animals to the show barns Friday morning weigh in and judging Friday afternoon with ribbons displayed thereafter.
