Terry County Entomologist Phillip Kidd says no organized diapause spraying before fall 1999. The Western High Plains Boll Weevil Eradication Steering Committee set Oct 30 1998 as the referendum date, delaying the diapause program start. The delay follows Texas Department of Agriculture guidance not to enforce 1998 assessments.

BHS Debate Students Qualify for TFA State Tournament
Brownfield High School speech and debate team members Jason Sharp Neisha Ward and Kristan Bayless advanced to the Texas Forensic Association State Tournament at the Odessa Permian Speech Tournament. Sharp Ward reached quarterfinals and Bayless finals before withdrawing from the final. Bayless earned qualification with five straight wins despite entering Odessa with no points.
