Motorists Reminded Of School Zone Near Colonial Heights Elementary
Drivers in the Colonial Heights Elementary area exceed the 20 mph limit. An officer will patrol the zone for several weeks to enforce speed restrictions and protect students at crosswalks. Parking rules require motorists to stop for students crossing.

THP Reports Four Accidents In January
The Texas Highway Patrol investigated four accidents on county highways in Terry County during January. January 1971 saw 467 accidents in the Lubbock DPS Region with 17 deaths and 235 injuries, compared with January 1970’s 460 accidents, 15 deaths, and 188 injuries. Deaths by county included Lubbock four, Wise three, and one each in Hutchinson Terry Clay Palo Pinto Parker Wichita Childress Potter and Sherman.

Firemen Answer 20 Calls in January Brownfield department logs twenty incidents
The Brownfield Fire Department handled 20 calls in January with 12 in town and eight in the county. City fires included three houses, with calls ranging from a 1204 East Broadway blaze on Jan 5 to a 114 West Webb small building fire on Jan 30. County fires covered locations on Levelland Highway and Lubbock Road among others.

Texas public schools expect to serve more than 220 million lunches in 1970 71 with 58 million free or reduced price meals. State funds for expansion rise to 42.6 million dollars, a 123 percent gain from last year. Brownfield schools reported 35,081 meals in January with 11,707 free and 217 reduced prices.
