Eleven civil jury cases are set for Monday at 10 a.m. before District Judge M C Ledbetter. Plaintiffs include Audrey Patton and husband v Tyra Lynn Hull and husband James Larry Hull among others. A jury of 48 will report at 1:30 p.m. Monday after voir dire selections. A proclamation designates February 16–22, 1969 as Jaycee Week in Brownfield Texas.
Lt. Colonel Bob Mote and Major Lester Biringer presented the CAP charter during a Thursday 8 p.m. program at the Party House. Ray Anderson, Chamber of Commerce president, and Harold Andrews, first vice president, attended.
Brownfield Jaycees climax a week of activities with the Distinguished Service Award Banquet at 7 30 p m in the Holiday House. The event names the Outstanding Young Man of the Year and honors other top Jaycee awards. Guest speakers include R B Mee Alister state representative from Lubbock and Dr F W Mattox president of Lubbock Christian College.
Fred Tucker deputy sheriff was named Outstanding Police Officer of the Year at the third annual Officer Appreciation Banquet sponsored by Howard Hanson Post No. 269. Tucker received a $100 check and an engraved plaque. His wife June received roses. Tucker has served four years with the sheriff's department after time with the Coop. He was born in Ralls, raised in Terry County, and is a Brownfield High School alumnus. He is married to June Gary and they have two sons, Rodney and Ronnie. The Tuckers attend Northside Baptist Church.
The public is invited to attend the formal opening of the City of Brownfield Public Safety Building Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 120 North Fifth Street. The building houses the City Police Department, City Jail, Corporation Court and Civil Defense headquarters with tours and refreshments. Women’s Auxiliary members and city staff will host the event.
Nancy Turner Miss South Plains will open the 17th Tournament of Talent, sponsored by the Brownfield Lions Club, with a balance beam act Thursday night at 7:30 in Brownfield High School Auditorium, followed by a second show Friday. Entry deadline is Tuesday, tickets 50 cents students and 1 dollar adults. First and grand prizes total 30, 20, 10 dollars, with a grand prize Friday night. Proceeds aid the Crippled Children's Camp in Kerrville.
Terry County Junior Livestock Show invites livestock entries by Saturday February 22 with no late submissions accepted. The annual event, co Sponsored by the Terry County Young Farmers and Brownfield Junior Chamber of Commerce, will be held March 14 and 15 at the County Barn.
