Terry County oil information committee formed

Don Hewitt of Brownfield is named chairman of the Terry County Oil Information Committee for the petroleum information program. He will lead a panel including Joe L. Price, Robert L. Hansen, and Mrs. Sue Runnels to deliver speakers, films, demonstrations, and educational materials about oil and gas to clubs, schools, and communities.

First April Election Officials Named for Terry County

The Terry County Commissioners Court approved Republican Party selections for April 4 voting roles and noted two major party candidates or officials. The court also reviewed bills, approved courthouse shelving, and arranged land leases and highway work including a $4,663 relocation with Pioneer Natural Gas.

Former Terry High principal dies at 56

Benjamin Willard Newhouse 56, former Meadow High School principal in the 1958 59 school year, died of a heart seizure at his Lorenzo home. He served as MHS principal during that period and was in a later post noted as SEE No 2 PAGE 2.

Brownfield Servicemen Graduate In Military Tech Schools

Four Brownfield and Terry servicemen are listed with recent schooling milestones. John D. Ward, electronics technician seaman, Navy, son of M. H. Ward, will graduate March 3 from the Electronics Technician School at Treasure Island. Darwin L. Willis, Route 1, graduated January 27 from the Aviation Electronics Technician School in Memphis. Dean K. Eubank, son of Mrs. Vera Mae Eubank, recently graduated from the Aircraft Mechanic School at Sheppard AFB after Brownfield High School. George E. Lackey, personnel man third class, Navy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Lackey, is serving with Patrol Squadron 44 at NAS Norfolk.

Meadow Meat Judging Team Wins Floyd NM Meet

Meadow vocational agriculture meat judging team under Stanley Dixon won first place at the Floyd, New Mexico Invitational Meat Judging Contest beating 17 groups. Meadow scored 633.2 points with Rich ard Copeland named top individual judge. team members were Copeland Don Murray Freddy Tucker James Verner Larry Williams Morris Pate and Lynn Parrish.

Talent Tournament Aims To Crown Local Speakers

Brownfield Lions Club hosts the Tournament of Talent with four divisions for students and Negro participants. Entry deadline is Tuesday with a 3 minute limit and prices 50 cents to 1 dollar. Brownfield Toastmasters seek area contest reps to compete March 18 against eight clubs for district and national advancement.

South Plains Scout Program Discussed For Rotarians Here

Dr. C. G. Dunn of Levelland spoke to the Brownfield Rotary Club about National Boy Scout Week. He noted over 8,000 boys in a 20 county area are in a comprehensive Scout program with eight paid executives and a total yearly cost of 12 dollars per participant.

Great Plains Conservation Program Urges Terry Farmers

Mack Gray of the U S Soil Conservation Service promotes the Great Plains program to Terry County farmers to share 50 50 in irrigation and erosion control costs. Eligible growers sign three to ten year contracts and apply at the SCS office in the Post Office basement.
