The 1957 Census of Governments reveals Terry County holds $3,486,900 in assessed property for tax purposes, split into real property $8,155,000 and personal property $4,331,060. Per capita tax base equals $2,220 versus national $1,490 and Texas $1,150.

Cubs Top Odessa Ector In Season Finale 54-49

The Cubs closed the 1957-58 season with a 54-49 win over Odessa Ector to finish undefeated in district play. Ken Cary led scoring with 19 points while Gayle Courtney supplied 17 for Ector. Brownfield connected on 43 percent in the first half, and the Cubs held leads 19-15, 32-24, and 42-38 through the quarters.

Three Brownfield Trustee Seats Open This Spring

Three Brownfield school trustee positions will be open to applicants with terms expiring this year. Raymond Simms, tax collector, notes the filing deadline is March 4 and the election will be held April 5. Incumbents I. M. Bailey W. J. Carter and Cecil ONeal retire.

Brownfield Druagist Glenn N. Webber Dies at 47

Glenn N. Webber 47 longtime Brownfield druggist died Saturday morning at his home 210 Fast Tate after a sudden illness. He is survived by wife Lilie Mae and mother Mrs. G. S. Webber of 502 Fast Cardwell. Services set for 2 40 pm Monday at First Methodist Church with burial in Terry County Memorial Cemetery. The Rev James E. Tidwell will officiate. Webber born September 23 1919 in Anadarko Oklahoma.

Hospital To Close This July In Brownfield

Preadaway Daniell Hospital will close July 1 due to health and overwork. Owners Dr A H Daniell and Dr T J Preadaway plan retirement. further plans from Dr Daniels and Dr Cecil Knox are unclear. An open meeting at 3 pm Monday in Brownfield City Hall will discuss keeping a hospital open. Community leaders from City Council and local banks are urged to attend.

Thursday Rites Said For Burton D. Rowe

Funeral services for Burton D. Rowe 44 of 207 North Atkins were held at the Nazarene Church with Rev Howard Smith. He died about 10 20 am Wednesday after a sudden illness at Treadaway hospital. Born February 23 1913 in Oklahoma he moved to Terry County thirty years ago and worked as a farmer then road construction. A WWII veteran and Masonic Lodge member burial was at Terry County Memorial Cemetery. Survivors include his wife two daughters Mrs Kenneth Moore and Mrs Homer Henson and a grandchild.

Woman Found Dead in Brownfield Tourist Court

Brownfield police found the body of Mrs Helen Miles at Moore's Camp in the 100 block of East Main. Justice of the Peace Lonnie Rhyne ruled death by natural causes after the body was discovered around 9:16 p.m. on Saturday.

Continental Sets On District Sales Post in Brownfield

Continental announces Homer Albrecht as district sales representative in Brownfield. Albrecht, a three year associate, resides at 19 East Pepnoto with his wife and 11 month old daughter. He previously lived in Albuquerque and Lubbock. This marks Continental's first district headquarters in Brownfield. He attended Idaho State College and the University of New Mexico before joining Continental.

Popular Joe Kerbel will address Brownfield High School athletes at the annual Pep Club Banquet in the junior high cafeteria Tuesday. Miss Richardson says the queen will be crowned at the event and kept secret until the coronation ceremony. Kerbel, Texas Tech assistant coach and former Amarillo High coach, is lauded as a top after-dinner speaker and praised by coaches for his work in building successful programs.
