WTCAC near 90% completion plans advance for Terry County facility

Terry County Commissioners held an all day session led by Judge Doug Ryburn with David Messersmith of MWM Klug Architects. Plans for the West Texas Children’s Assessment Center aim for 90 percent completion by March 11 and possible bid readiness by March 25, with construction tentatively set for late spring. The project, to be built on Bynum Lane, would include an emergency shelter and remedial treatment for abused and neglected children ages 6-17, funded by $1.5 million in general bonds and an estimated design cost earlier pegged at about $1.8 million.

Brownfield Chamber Plans 1996 Cookoff and Banquet

During a lengthy meeting the Brownfield Chamber of Commerce board outlined plans for the 1996 Brisket and Bean Cookoff and Chamber Banquet set for April 13, plus a revamped July 4 celebration. Activities will include a chuckwagon cookoff, arts and crafts booths, and a traveling trophy for the brisket winner with out of town entries eligible for cash prizes. Darren Norwood is slated to perform at Cub Stadium in the Fourth of July event.

Jury convicts Rojo in venue change case

A Terry County jury took three hours to convict Jorge Luis Rojo of first degree murder of his estranged wife Maria Rojo after a venue change from Gaines County. He received the maximum life sentence, following an argument on Sept. 13, 1994 in Seminole.

BRMC Directors Approve Abatement and Guidelines

The Terry Memorial Hospital District Board approved a tax abatement for a Phillips 66 Food Plaza on Lubbock Highway with two to three year terms tied to spending and job creation.
