Legionnaires Here Will Be Honored At Post 269 meeting

Howard Herson Post 269 American Legion will honor nine members at 8 pm in Legion Hall. L. L. Lincoln, commander, said 457 members will receive awards for 5 to 35 years of continuous membership. Four members will be recognized for activities during the recent membership drive. Raymond Andrews of Big Spring, 19th District commander, will be guest speaker. The program will also plan the district convention set for April 26-27. Lincoln noted the drive netted about 375 new members. goal remains 435 with 60 more needed. Award recipients include Joe Weatherman, Wayne McKinney, Aubrey T. Jones, and L. D. Bailey among 12 members. long-term honorees range from 5 to 35 years.

Forbes Celebrate 54 Years in Brownfield Marriage Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Forbes Sr. mark 54 years since their Valentine Day wedding in Clarksville. The couple moved to Terry County in 1915 and farmed in Pleasant Valley before retiring to Brownfield in 1946. They have six children, 15 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.

Telephone rate changes approved by city council

Brownfield ordinance amendments for General Telephone Co. were approved. New monthly 25 cent charge for colored phones replaces a 7 50 one-time fee and color lines move to special service. Installations rise to 5 for residence and 7 50 for business, moving inside phones to 5, residence extension to 1, effective Feb 21 billing.

Final Rites Are Held For Gomez Resident

Funeral services for Clyde H. Jones 65 of Gomez Community were held at First Baptist Church with Rev Clyde R Campbell of Hobbs officiating. Jones moved from Lynn County last year and died at Treadaway Daniell Hospital after weeks of illness. A farmer and Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge member he is survived by his wife two sons Clyde of Albuquerque Durwood Route 2 a daughter Mrs Alene Plundley of Palfurrias a sister Mrs Jessie Hawthorne of Anson and four grandchildren.

Wellman Girls Capture Second Win In District Action

Whiteface defeated Wellman 51 to 24 while Wellman won 48 to image pace. Ashmore led Whiteface with 18 points, Virginia Thornton 24, Weldw Hill 17, Powell 23 and Snodvracs noted for Whiteface. Wellman survived two overtimes to reach 22 wins in 25 games, Jim Gore scored 12 for Wellman.

Record Ballot Sees Heavy Turnout Despite Weather

Voters aided by sleet and snow approve a 300000 classroom and athletic plant at Colonial Heights Elementary and an athletic facility expansion. Bond passage totals include 654 219 for the classroom, 508 378 for athletic, and 41 201 for Proposition 1 SB II backed debt. Construction launches next spring with possible bowl addition under a 190000 plan.
