National Director David Senter of American Agriculture from Washington DC will speak at Brownfield High School Commons February 16 at 6 p.m. to discuss farm issues. Senter previously farmed cotton and dairy in Burleson Texas before relocating to lobbying duties and helped pass the PIC program.

Chamber of Commerce approves 1984 budget in regular meeting
The Brownfield Chamber of Commerce board met January 8 to approve the 1984 budget. Income is 65,859.15 with expenses 64,469.11 and a 1,290.04 profit, higher than last year’s 57,013.96. The plan emphasizes sports events, Harvest Festival, Chamber Banquet, and defensive driving courses, with efforts to bring playoff games and possible Dallas Hoopers visits. A depot closure notice from the Texas Railroad Commission and banquet profits of 4,090 on 409 tickets are also noted.

Crime Line offers reward in local burglaries
The Brownfield Crime Information Inc will pay a $300 reward for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons involved in a burglary of a residence at 1303 E Main. The theft occurred Tuesday 27 84 and a British made .38 caliber revolver was taken.

Brownfield Banks Release Fourth Quarter Figures
Brownfield banking institutions report for the quarter ending December 31 1983 with gains in assets and deposits but a drop in loan totals. Combined assets reached 106 151 000 up from 99 908 000 and deposits rose to 99 647 000 from 90 868 000. Loans fell from 52 978 000 to 44 739 000. Individual bank figures show First National assets up to 67 297 000 and deposits to 62 062 000, Brownfield State Bank assets 38 854 000, deposits 37 585 000.

Strickland Files to Challenge for Terry County Sheriff
Jim Strickland, 29, files as a Democratic challenger for Terry County Sheriff in the May race. A native of the county, he has five years in law enforcement and two years as a local dirt contractor. He has 94 hours reserve certification training, eight hours report writing, 58 hours laws of life training, and 44 hours emergency care attendant school. Strickland has two children, Jimmy and Christie, who attend Wellman School, and his parents James and June Strickland reside in Terry.
