Morton Falls Just Short Of 300 In Sands Bowling Clash

Morton of Davis Electric posted a 297 in game one and a 722 three game set at Sands Bowling League, breaking the series record but missing a 300 by three pins. He set a new series mark, 722, and tied his own high game record of 277, with prime prizes totaling over 3000 dollars on the line.

Brownfield Boys Club Opens with Youth Registration

The Brownfield Boys Club opens Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the 700 block on West Broadway. Executive director Leon Hatter invites 500 to 700 Brownfield and Terry boys ages 10 to 18 to register starting at 4 p.m. Membership is to cost $1 a year, with potential later registration for ages 7 to 9.

Youth Arrested for Drunken Theft at Bonham 66

A Brownfield minor was arrested Sunday night at Bonham's 66 Service on Sea graves Highway after a station attendant Norris Muniz reported the boy drunk and stealing combs and candies. Officer W O Word pursued the suspect into the women's restroom.

Officers for the 1961 Babe Ruth Baseball League were elected Thursday at First National Bank with outgoing President Troy Noel presiding. Cotton chain keeps Terry County humming through gins to compress

In Texas cotton country Terry County relies on Texas Compress and Warehouse Co in Brownfield to move 1300 to 1400 bales daily, employing about 50 people. Some 30,000 bales remain at three yards under constant watch as ginning ends. Coburn says remaining stock will be compressed by February 20 and the cycle will resume with the new harvest.

Texas National Guard alerts Brownfield unit for mass drill

Austin headquarters announces a statewide drill named Operation Muster set for February between the 18th and 26th. Battery B of the 2nd Howitzer Battalion, 133rd Artillery, 36th Division will participate, with more than 20 000 soldiers expected to mobilize to test readiness and mobilization of Minute Men across Texas. Radio station KTFY will relay orders to guardsmen lacking phone access.
