Terry County farm figures show 50 903 bales of cotton for 1952 matching 1951 in ranking among 19 South Plains counties. Terry remains eighth in cotton production with 66 627 bales ginned last year. The 20 county area surpassed old cotton states in total output.
A barbecue and program mark Boy Scout Week at Veterans Hall Friday night. All Brownfield area Scouts and fathers plus boys aspiring to join are invited to attend the dinner starting at 7:30 p.m. Members of the Order of the Arrow should arrive by 7:00 p.m. for a special pre‑meal session.
The school board approved an April 4 election for trustees and extended contracts for administrators coaches and band director. They received the Merriman and Thomas audit for 1951 52 and named W T McKinney presiding judge with E G Akers Sid Lowery and 2 L Pemberton as assistants.
A truck parked in a vacant lot at 302 North Sixth burned Wednesday night but firefighters reported only slight damage.
Marvin Richardson Jr., a 19 year old Negro, was charged with burglary after a Sunday break in at Clayton's Cafe. Officer Harbin found him hiding under a kitchen table and Richardson admitted breaking in on the two prior Sundays. He had taken money from the juke box on the first two visits and gained free lodging on the third.
Brownfield issued nine building permits in January 1953 totaling 362 500 with 300 000 for First Methodist church on East Broadway. The brick 220 by 117 foot structure is to be built by John T Glover and Son of Lubbock. Texas Business Review predicts a 1953 boom in construction including roads schools hospitals and hotels.
Texas farming and ranching interests push a simplified white card system for Mexican farm workers. The American Agricultural Council led by Jim Griffin of Mission spoke Tuesday in San Angelo urging the plan, with support from Joe Montague, attorney for the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers.

Red Raiders, Incorporated led by Al Allison announces a statewide get together in Brownfield at the American Legion Hall on Feb 26. The event features a barbecue with reservations via Burton Hackney or Allison Hackney, a 10 minute Cotton Bowl highlight film, and a Tech game reel. Elections for local and state Red Raiders, Inc. officers will be held. coaching staff to attend as guests.
Boyce House shown in Hollywood as he chats with Sam Zimbalist about MGM producer’s next big film. House, linked to Zimbalist in Boom Town, will speak at the Chamber of Commerce banquet at 7 30 p m Tuesday at the Randall cafe.
Thirteen of fifteen Brownfield charter commissioners met for the first time and organized with Fred C. Smith as chairman, Janes Harley Dallas as vice chairman, and Tommy Hicks as secretary. A Feb 19 meeting was set. The group will study charters and consult C Crutchfield of the Texas League of Municipalities to resolve potential issues. John J. Kendrick and George Sibley were absent.
Sunray Oil Corporation stakes a semi wildcat located 12 miles from Brownfield in west Terry county. The No 1 Laura A Winn is 660 feet from the north and west lines of the southeast quarter of Section 93, Block D-11, C M Survey. Drilling is to commence immediately at a depth of 8500 feet.
