Brownfield Board of Education schedules annual trustee election for April 7. Two positions open for President Jim Murdough and T A Hicks. neither seeks re election. Balloting from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the County Superintendent office. filings due 30 days before election in Brownfield High School business office. Murdough encourages many candidates to file for broader public benefit.
Lions Club plans the 10th annual Tournament of Talent at Brownfield High School auditorium on February 22 and 23 starting 7 30 p m with four divisions including elementary and Negro. Entries close February 19 with rehearsals February 20 at 6 30 p m. Top prizes awarded per division and a grand winner with admission set at 1 for adults and 50 cents for children and students.
Monroe Rowden of Route 4 announces his candidacy for the Republican nomination for Precinct 4 county commissioner in the May 5 primary. He is the second Republican candidate for a county office, following Charles S. Kersh for county judge. Rowden, 37, lifelong Terry resident, Army Air Force veteran, cites a need for a two party system in Texas and Terry County.
A called Brownfield field Chamber of Commerce directors meeting will begin at 6 30 a m Wednesday Pres L G Smith said the special session aims to name committee men for the year and determine this year s program of work.
The PTA Founders Day program is set for 7 30 p m Thursday in Brownfield High School Auditorium. Dr F W Mattox president of Lubbock Christian College will give an address on Our American Heritage. Life Membership awards will be presented and refreshments served in the BHS Library.
The Four-County group of agriculture workers from Terry Dawson Gaines and Yoakum counties will meet Tuesday at 7 a.m. in the county agent's office in Seminole. John Seibert of Lubbock will present Finance-Continued Credit in Agriculture Versus Corporation. Terry County men will depart Green Hut Grill at 6 p.m.
A 16 year old BHS junior Gayle Herron seeks princess crown at the annual Fat Stock Show in Lubbock. She is sponsored by the Future Farmers Chapter of BHS and is among FFA and 4 H entries from the South Plains plus Roosevelt, Lea and Curry counties in New Mexico.
Principal Byron Rucker announces the first semester honor roll at Brownfield High School. Funeral services for 62 year old Mrs Ida Day of Brownfield were conducted at 2 p m Saturday at Southside Church of Christ. Burial was in Terry County Memorial Cemetery. pallbearers were Brownfield men. She died Friday morning at her daughter’s home after moving from Altus Oklahoma.
