A new technology focused micro publisher operation labeled ITT Southwest Micro Pub established at 2627 East Yandel Drive in El Paso Texas 79903. The venture aims to serve local IT and publishing needs with small scale production and on site services.
Wellman Wildcats defeated Wilson Mustangs 93 to 58 as Lady Cats led 59 to 19 in a strong team showing. Details and full box scores follow in later pages.
Bruce Woods, vice president at First National Bank, was honored as Brownfield’s Outstanding Citizen for 1992 at the Chamber of Commerce Banquet in the BHS Commons. The 1991 recipient Lynn Brisendine presented the award and lauded Woods for broad-based community service and his decade of city progress including promoting the economic sales tax.
Brownfield Chamber of Commerce board members met Monday to consider buying a speaker system for Harvest Festival and other events. Roy Lanning of Roy's Tapes and Pro Audio proposed two SNS 12 or 15 inch dual PA speakers, a Honda four channel amplifier, two Shure Pro-14H mics, a stand and two cables, with details on the system seen on page 4.
Terry County commissioners approved a 94,179 bid from Bee Equipment Sales for a hot oil distributor and 1993 GMC truck to replace renting and save costs. Also okayed 16,400 for a 1992 Ford van for the Senior Citizens, a 1,200 computer for the Mental Health Clinic, and bank depository terms through 1995 with First National Bank of Brownfield. They also authorized a new secretary for County Extension Agents Jane Blay and Dirk Aaron.
Lynn Brisendine notes Bruce Woods earned the 1992 Terry County Citizen of the Year for his civic leadership at Brownfield. As First National Bank vice president and key driver behind economic initiatives, Woods helped attract the CRTC ISF and future TDCJ facility, now employing 80 to 170 people. his service spans BID Corp lions club and church boards.
In a brief meeting, the Brownfield Regional Medical Center Board approved dermatology clinic arrangements for Dr. Jim Reed of Lubbock and granted privileges for Dr. Dennis Tedford. Dr. Reed will treat dermatology patients Mondays and Thursdays in BRMC’s clinic, augmenting his radiology schedule.
Ten BHS art students earn Gold Key in the West Texas Regional Scholastic Art Competition at Texas Tech University amid 3,100 entries from 67 Texas counties and 18 New Mexico counties. An awards ceremony is set for Feb. 19 at 1:30 p.m. in the TTU Administration Building with displays through the day.
More than 500 youths showed animals at the Brownfield Junior Livestock Show held Saturday. Grand and reserve champions were named in steer lamb and swine divisions, with Tatum Henson and Tiffany Barrier earning top honors in steers and showmanship. Judges included Leslie Vann of Ackerly.
