Weather outlook calls for clearing skies and warm week

The forecast from the National Weather Bureau calls for decreasing cloudiness starting Saturday with mostly clear skies by Sunday. Warmer weather is expected early next week as winds remain under 15 mph most of the time.

Residents Fight Tahoka Road No Parking Signs

A large Tahoka Road meeting saw residents oppose No Parking signs from Lubbock Highway to Cedar Street with petitions against erection. The council discussed speed limits, traffic lights on Tahoka Road, and asked the highway department to reduce limits while city officials pursue signals. The session also approved EMCO trash containers and reported a temporary injunction against General Telephone.

Brownfield City Election Set for April 3

Brownfield voters will go to the polls Saturday April 3 for city elections. Don Park will serve as judge with Henry Newman as alternate. council terms for Mayor Lloyd Hahn and Councilmen Tommy Hix and Bonner Lytle expire. Hix and Lytle eligible for reelection while Hahn has served the limit. The Jaycee Distinguished Service Awards Banquet at Brownfield High School Commons drew a large crowd with Jaycee of the Year Theo Brinson and Outstanding Young Man of Terry County Bill Long recognized.

Police Academy Proposed for Brownfield in SPAG Area

Brownfield selected as site for a permanent police academy to serve the 15 county SPAG area including 43 cities. City Manager says 240 hours schooling for certification may rise, with 12 month to become certified. council discussion notes moving equipment when schools rotate between cities.

First Baptist Revival Planned for February 15 20

First Baptist Church schedules nightly revival services February 15 20 with Dr Ed Bowles of Beaumont as evangelist. Services start 7:30 p.m. except Tuesday 7 p.m. incl noon gym sessions with lunch. Nursery provided. Congregation invites all as part of 1976 bicentennial year. Brownfield High Cubs game at 8 p.m. noted.

Delton Gregg seeks Terry County Precinct 3 commissioner post

Delton Gregg of Terry County announces his candidacy for Precinct 3 county commissioner in the Democratic primary on May 1. He cites 23 years farming and Army Engineer Corps road work for qualifications and plans to visit every precinct 3 voter before the election. Gregg, a Meadow High graduate, has lived in Precinct 3 twenty years with wife Barbara and two daughters, and is active in Gomez Baptist Church.
