Grand Jury Returns 18 Indictments in Terry County

The Terry County Grand Jury, meeting in Winter session Thursday, returned 18 indictments against 12 defendants. Vincent Bryant Sims was named on four indictments for separate charges, including unlawfully obtaining property from Vernon Whitaker on January 4. Santiago Mesa was also charged and indicted with Sims.

Amoco To Honor Williams With Retirement Dinner

T C Coleman Williams will be honored at a retirement dinner by Amoco Production Company at 7 p.m. Thursday at the American Legion Hall before his March 1 retirement after 40 years in oil field services. He joined Amoco in 1961 after serving as district superintendent of Honolulu Oil and has helped develop fields in Texas and New Mexico. Williams, mayor of Brownfield, holds a BS in Petroleum Engineering from Texas Tech, is a Texas registered engineer, and has led local API and park board roles. Tamale Supper to Benefit Brownfield Band Trip

The Brownfield Band Boosters sponsor a tamale supper on February 9 from 5 to 7 30 p m in the high school commons. Proceeds support a spring band trip to Nashville. Menu includes tamales beans chips cornbread pie and tea. Tickets 4 for adults 3 for students and children 12 and under. Tickets at the door or from band members.

Brownfield Council Sets April 3 City Election Date

Brownfield City Council called a city election for April 3 to fill at large seats held by Billy Moore Jackie Cargill and Mayor T C Williams Don Park was named election judge with Dennis McCutch eon as alternate. The council released funds to finish the recreation center and debated using 1982 revenue sharing money for police cruisers streets and maintainer. The project would cost about $8 000 to finish with remaining funds 1981 unused and 86 107 more scheduled for 1982.

FNB Promotes Three Officers at Brownfield Bank

First National Bank of Brownfield announces three promotions after its annual stockholders meeting. Jimmy Jones and John Duggan rise to executive vice president, and Ruby Craig becomes secretary to the board while remaining secretary to the president. President L J Richardson praised their performance and noted 1981 growth in earnings deposits assets equity and net income per share.

Chaffin Files for Brownfield School Board Seat Two

Sam Chaffin financial vice president at Goodpasture Inc announces he filed for place two on the Brownfield School Board for the April 3 election. A Crane Texas native and Texas Tech graduate, he led accounting work at Peat, Marwick and Mitchell before joining Goodpasture. He and his wife Margaret have two daughters, Kelly and Becky.

Texas ranks high in business climate study

A national firm ranked Texas second behind Florida for the best business climate in the lower 48 states, proving Texans’ pride in their state. TheBrownfield News later corrected a misstatement about directory assistance charges, noting the rate is 20 cents per call after the first three, not $20 per call.

Brownfield Crimeline Information, Inc. will hold its annual meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in the Terry County Courthouse district courtroom. The group will elect several new board members and plan crime control strategy. The public is invited to attend.

Reward Offered in Brownfield Burglary and Vehicle Thefts

Brownfield Crime Information, Inc. offers 300 reward for information leading to arrest and indictment of those involved in a residence burglary at 714 N Atkins. Burglary occurred twice between January 30 and February 3 1982, taking a ladies diamond ring. Also sought are suspects in a Cobra equalizer theft from a 1980 red Chevrolet at Bennard Stice shop and a 1974 Ford 4000 diesel tractor taken from Agri Equipment Co 605 S 2nd on February 3 1982.
