Local Brownfield merchants met before dawn to approve a 14 item program of work focused on better organization and holiday plans. A mayoral and two council elections were scheduled for April 5 with details for polling and election officials noted as part of the city session.
The Terry County Hospital expansion moves forward after bids were opened and Commercial Construction Co. of San Antonio won with 36 300 dollars from a field of nine bids up to 50 000. The project includes a corridor linking the former nurses home to the main building, adding baths to eight rooms, and three extra rooms likely for surgery or maternity use. Work is set for 110 working days and should begin soon as officials plan to start within weeks.

A 65 year old Seagraves man, Jack Crell, was hospitalized in Terry County for neck injuries after his 1955 sedan was rear ended Friday morning at First and Main by a 1958 car driven by 15 year old Lydia Guerra of Levelland Road. Crell was listed resting comfortably with injuries not yet fully determined.
Mr and Mrs Marlin Smyrl have recently moved to Fort Worth from Sweetwater Mrs Smyrl is a former employee of the First National Bank of Brownfield.
Brownfield police investigated theft of a late-model 1956 four door sedan owned by J A Fox of 301 West Lake. The car was recovered in Anson early Thursday, apparently undamaged. S&P Motor Supply at 110 North Sixth reported a shot out plate glass window, the second such break in a few weeks.
