County Receives Disaster Designation for 1976 Loans

Brownfield Bank unveils bold $500000 to $600000 revamp

Brownfield State Bank and Trust Co presents plans to Brownfield City Council for a major facelift. The project includes a built up canopy, traffic islands, extensive landscaping, seven drive in windows, a Mini Bank, redesigned lobby with circular main area, expanded second floor with Trust Department and lounge, and a new 60 car parking lot from Noble property. Construction targets May start and January 1978 completion.

Brownfield City Council approves city judge and election

The Brownfield City Council hired Floyd Doc Burda as city judge replacing L. A. Rhyne who recently retired and was sworn in by Mayor Bonner Lytle. They discussed street paving on Cheryl and Stockton, set April election for two council seats, hospital and school boards, and continued a plan to remove four dilapidated houses. They reviewed $160,000 in revenue sharing uses and debated city employee raises before the Feb 17 budget meeting.

Heart Sunday Campaign Aims for $7000 in Terry County

Heart Sunday set for February 20 with Mayor Bonner Lytle as chairman. Volunteers will door to door collect donations for the Terry County Heart Association which targets a $7000 yearly goal including memorials. Special events last year raised funds, including a December Meadow coffee with blood pressure tests for 77, a December 31 New Year’s dance by the American Legion that brought in 500, and a January 7 Oak Grove dinner netting 360.22, totaling 860.22 from events. Officers listed: Bill Small president, Harlem Willis vice president, Marion Boston secretary.

Jaycee Outstanding Young Man Banquet Set in Brownfield

The Brownfield Jaycees will honor Terry County Outstanding Young Man at a 7:30 p.m. banquet Thursday Feb 10 in Brownfield High School Commons. Speaker Robert Beato of Continental Oil Co, a Castro refugee, will address attendees. Tickets are $5. nominations open via Bill Long Box 912 or any Jaycee member.

Brownfield Chamber Plans April Breakfast and Prizes

The Brownfield Chamber of Commerce board discussed a quarterly general meeting breakfast aimed for an April start. Dick Simpson and Johnny Willis were named co chairs for breakfast planning. Alvin Davis offered a $50 Cowboy Store boot prize for attendees who are present to win.
