The Homemaker's Inc event is set for 7 p.m. February 17 at Brownfield Middle School Auditorium. Local merchants sponsor the event which offers free cookbooks coupons and door prizes as Home Economist Dawn Garey presents a cooking program lasting about 22 hours.
Brownfield High School schedules the 1986 Miss Red & White crowning during Homecoming events as the Cub girls and boys host Slaton in a district finale. A 5:30 p.m. supper precedes at 6:30 p.m. with a 3 dollar adult and 2.50 child price. The ceremony features senior and junior class favorites and ends at halftime of the boys game with the Miss Red and White crowning.
The May 3 primary slate includes four contested races plus a Republican County Chairman race. Incumbent Terry County Judge Herbert Chesshir faces Darwin Cargill, Precinct Two Commissioner Bill Keesee is opposed by Melvin Carroll, and Precinct Four Commissioner James Martin runs against Jimmy Berryhill. Tax assessor collector sees Redelle Davis challenged by Leeta Northcutt. Incumbents Carolyn Proctor Betty Frazier B Robbie Montgomery Ann Willis are unopposed in their posts. Eighty two Brownfield Middle School students earned I or Outstanding ratings at the Tau Beta Sigma solo and ensemble contest at Texas Tech University. Ten schools participated, with Brownfield leading in awards as director Willie Hintze and BHS Rob and Barbara Lovett supervised. Some medals ran out due to the large number of I ratings. many awards will be given later.
Meadow and Brownfield livestock shows begin this week at the Terry County Showbarn with weigh ins Thursday and Saturday. R.J. Hogan of Crosbyton will judge the Meadow Show featuring 60 swine and 20 lambs. A pee wee event follows with Meadow FFA Sweetheart Tracy Colmen presenting top trophies. The Brownfield event involves 85 swine and 25 lambs with BHS FFA and 4-H participants, weigh in at 8 am and judging after.
The Brownfield City Council will hold a brief session at 8:30 a.m. Thursday to accept bids for city hall renovations including room modifications to accommodate a larger council in the spring. Bids will also be considered for carpeting and painting the city hall.
BRMC area residents must file by February 19 to seek one of three at large positions on the Terry Memorial Hospital District Board of Directors. Two year terms for Lynn Halamicek Kerry Musick and Lanny Webb will be open. Election scheduled for April 5.
Brownfield groups push the McGruff crime prevention program into classrooms from K through 5 with puppets and tapes at a cost of 65 dollars per set. Lions clubs, led by Boss Lion Curtis Christopher, aim to place puppets in every class, aided by donations from local graduates.
