The Weather Bureau reports little change in the weather pattern through Saturday. A new cold front is due in the area but conditions are expected to stay largely the same.
Terry County Heart Association hosts a 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. coffee on February 13 at Bowman Motors to boost the Heart Fund Drive for heart disease prevention. Roy Rogers film Mackintosh and T. J opens at Regal I with West Texas setting authenticity noted.
Community Action board members meet to approve the nominating committee slate led by Leonard Ellington as president and Tim Faulkenberry and Don Hensley as vice presidents. Shirley Williams remains secretary. The group also notes 18 homes chosen for the Winterization Program with $150 to $175 per home. Meals On Wheels gains support from Brownfield High students and Jo Willis. Summer Youth Program planning is underway with Manpower Service and Don McWhorter.
Meadow based Pride of Meadow stays unbeaten as a youth basketball group. John Blair Ed Francis and managers Carolyn Tucker and Nancy Tidwell guide players including Cindy Gober Kim Smith Freda Howard Josie Branch Kay Blair Dianne Pendergrass Sandy Mason Sylvia Davila Mitzi Smith Lori Curtis and Sandy Melcher.
Brownfield officers charged Richard Diaz Hernandez 18 with three burglaries. The Goodyear burglary on January 1, Ross Campbell Implement December 28, 1975, and Domino Hall January 7 are alleged. Hernandez also faced prior DUI marijuana possession and no license charges.
Jim Rudd a Brownfield attorney and assistant county attorney announced his bid for State Representative of District 77, a seven county area in West Texas including Andrews Gaines Hockley Lynn Martin Terry and Yoakum. He is 32 and married to Brenda Rogers with three children Tiffany Trevor and Tyler. He holds a BBA from Texas Tech 1965 and a JD from Texas Tech 1970 and has worked in private practice and the Lubbock County DA office under Blair Cherry. He belongs to the Terry County Bar Association the Texas Bar Association the American Bar Association and other groups and is active in local groups including the First Methodist Church of Brownfield the Chamber Lions Club and Jaycees where he served as state vice president.
