Residents of Brownfield Consolidated Independent School District will cast ballots Saturday on a 1,150,060 bond proposal for two new junior high sites in northeast and southeast Brownfield, plus converting the current junior high to an elementary. Polls open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the County Courthouse office of the School Superintendent. Eligible voters include those with real or personal property for school tax on the 1963 roll and poll tax paid or exempt. The package totals 989,800 for two sites and building, 96,200 furniture, 28,700 cafeteria gear, 23,100 contingencies, and 15,000 to convert the present junior high to elementary use to relieve crowded space.
Lane Miller of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Office warns farmers to file appeals of seed grain yields by the final date. He stresses that grain sorghum producers must prove their 1961 and 1962 yields using proven bases from 1959 and 1960 to keep those yields valid, with the deadline set for Friday.
The City Council of Brownfield will meet in regular session at 9 a.m. Thursday. The meeting will be held at City Hall Building.
Temperatures are forecast to run 6 to 120 degrees below normal with a warming trend over the weekend. Normal highs reach 56 degrees and lows 27. No precipitation is expected.

Carl Hogue announces his candidacy for Terry County Commissioner Precinct 3 in the Democratic Primary on May 2, 1964. Born and raised in Terry County, he graduated Brownfield High in 1943, served two years in the U S Navy, and has since farmed. Married with one son, he attends First Baptist Church and pledges to handle tax money responsibly in a businesslike manner.
About 50 townspeople attended a Sunday information session on Saturday’s 1.15 million dollar school bond election. PTA leaders and School Board President Billie Moore outlined the program with Superintendent O R Douglas detailing the plan and answering questions. The district has grown from 1,975 students in 1953-54 to 3,335, with the bond funding a new junior high and converting the current junior high into an elementary facility.
A first snowfall measured three fourths of an inch at Brownfield and Terry County’s KTEY station, after a moisture total of .11 inch from rain and snow. The week’s low was 25 degrees, with February moisture averaging 0.70 inches. The Terry County Grand Jury will convene in the courthouse Thursday for its first session of the year. A total of 33 offenses are on the agenda to come before the jury for review.

He lists residence at 218 East Tate Street twenty three years in Terry County church and fraternal ties and pledges full time service if elected while visiting voters ahead of election day.
