BHS Art Students Honored at Tech Show
Brownfield High School artists earned regional and hallmark honors at the West Texas Scholastic Art Competition hosted by Texas Tech. Lala Lira scored a regional top prize with her ink drawing Lament and earned a Hallmark nomination for nationals in Philadelphia.

Auto accident claims local couple Wednesday
Brownfield residents Carroll Shults and Lois Shults died from injuries after a Wednesday automobile crash south of Wolfforth. Their 1987 Chevrolet collided at about 4 p.m. with a 1985 Ford pickup driven by Jerry Don Ross of Wilson, who was not killed. The Shults died later that evening.

Ground Water Study Targets Southernmost High Plains Counties
February 3 1991 Terry County and nearby counties in the Southernmost High Plains undergo a Texas Water Commission study to determine if the area warrants critical ground water designation. The effort, with the Texas Water Development Board, assesses shortages land subsidence and water quality and may lead to an underground water conservation district.

Brownfield merchants are being contacted by the D-FY IT committee to back a high school anti-drug program. Wayne Jones, co organizer, says testing starts in 30 days and a BHS assembly is set for March 6. Local merchants are asked to offer discounts and youth oriented services to help keep students drug free.
