Tax Study Group Presents Farm Value Reform Recommendations

The Brownfield School District tax study committee and the School Board met to report findings and propose uniform formulas for rural land values using the Income Approach Method. January Report Highlights County Jail Census and Awards Night

A January end report from the Terry County Sheriff's Department shows 50 prisoners handled, four juveniles, with burglaries, larceny, auto theft, drunkenness, and other offenses listed. The sheriff’s office served 38 papers for Terry County and 19 for other counties. The Brownfield Junior Chamber of Commerce Distinguish ed Service Awards honored Charlie Robison, James Willis, and Bob Whitney for 1964. Dr. Charles W. Jarvis addressed over 200 attendees, urging positive life approaches and valuing friendships. Community leaders and media representatives received thanks, and local entertainment included The Madrigal Singers directed by Jim Casey.

Willis Robison Honored For Community Service And Leadership

Willis Robison is a longtime Terry County leader active in Jaycees Boy Scouts United Fund and Chamber of Commerce. He served as Jaycee president in 1962 63 co superintendent of the Terry County Junior Livestock Show in 1964 and is a 1963 Outstanding Young Farmer plaque recipient. He farms 160 irrigated and 240 dry acres with cattle and is adult leader of the Wellman 4 H Club. He and wife Judy Audrain have two children Carla and Mark and attend Crescent Hill Church of Christ.

Banquet Plans Nearing Fruition

Chamber of Commerce banquet planners report steady progress for the February 11 event. Harry Elam presided the meeting. committee members include Wartes, Holme, Lopeland, Noble, Lytle, Ellington, Lilly, Hansen, Paul, Sewell, Swagen, and Jackson. The banquet, at 7 p.m., will be in the junior high cafeteria with Gov. Prestor Smith as principal speaker. tickets cost 3 dollars and are available at the Chamber office.

Dates Set For Terry County Junior Livestock Show

The Terry County Junior Livestock Show is scheduled for March 6 to 8. Brownfield Jaycees and Terry County Young Farmers Association Chapter co sponsor the event with support from local merchants. President Mark Wyatt thanked Brownfield residents for support at the Distinguished Service Awards Banquet where Marlon Summitt, Charlie Robison, and Bill Malcolm received plaques.

Legion Post Holds Special Meeting for Initiations

Howard-Henson Post No. 269 calls a special meeting at the American Legion Hall this Thursday February 4 at 7 30 pm. Stew cornbread and cobbler will be served before the meeting. New members from Lubbock Post No. 575 and Seagraves post will be initiated by the local initiation team. Commander Larry Bailey urges all members to attend.

Search Underway For Chamber Manager

The Chamber of Commerce board approved a process to select a new manager. Harry Elam, outgoing president, leads a five member committee of past presidents with full discretion to identify candidates for the post vacated by A C Bishop. The panel will define qualifications and duties to guide recommendations to the board. A regular meeting followed with business items discussed.

Weather outlook for Cham ber area and Chamber plans

Temperatures will run four to six degrees above normal with highs 44 to 59 and lows 22 to 36 as a warming trend continues to week’s end. Little precipitation is expected. Chamber under President Wartes discusses Retail Trade Committee led by Charles Fitzgerald and a Leaders Conference in Big Spring on February 17 with participation urged.

Grand Jury To Convene Here In Terry County

The Terry County Grand Jury will convene in the courthouse Thursday morning with 22 cases on the docket. Among them are two murder charges against Reynaldo Aguirre Garcia and Domino Alvarado, plus numerous counts including theft, burglary, embezzlement, forgery and worthless checks against multiple individuals.
