John Hasselmeier reports Wellman Independent School Districts 1987 88 facilities upgrades and cost cutting as part of a four part series. The main building reroofed in spring 1988 with poly polyurethane foam promising lower utilities and comfort improvements. An energy study will measure savings in 1989. The district features a high school complex with labs gym and specialized classrooms connected by a library to the elementary building built in 1974 in excellent condition. Additional structures include vocational agriculture shop fieldhouse cafeteria bus barn and 17 teacherages to attract and retain teachers. Budget controls include reduced administration and shifted classroom aide funding to Chapter I. The district contemplates an energy management system promising 30 percent guaranteed utility savings. Revenue in 1987 88 totaled 1 670 073 with expenditures near 1 532 713. Balance of 137 360 remained. See WISD Page 2.
