City Wins Temporary Injunction Over Phone Rates

After a two day court session District Gas City Gail obtained a temporary injunction stopping General Telephone from raising rates beyond the current ordinance. City Attorney Bill McGowan said the order remains in effect until a permanent injunction is heard on an unscheduled date. Judge Ledbetter urged settlement while Mayor Lievel Hahn and City Manager Jake Gerono b observed the proceedings.

Jury Rules Bazan Guilty In Club Shooting Case

A jury in Judge Ledbetter's 121st District Court found Joe Antonio Bazan guilty of aggravated assault after an 90 minute deliberation. The verdict follows the November 4 1974 shooting of Daniel Morin at a local club with a silver plated .25 pistol. Sentencing was set for 1:30 p.m. February 5 after a pre sentence investigation.

Five Day Plan to Stop Smoking Offered at Brownfield Church

A community program titled Five Day Plan to Stop Smoking will be presented at 7 p.m. February 9 at the First Christian Church of Brownfield. Sponsored by Seventh Day Adventist and the American Lung Association of Texas West Texas Area, the event features lectures films group therapy and the Buddy System to help stop smoking.
