The 2003 year brought drought with rainfall under half the normal amount for Brownfield residents. Despite hardships, progress emerged as the Birdsong Peanut Shelter construction began and Oak Grove Elementary School started serving grades two through five.

Terry County Cotton Gins Near Season Finish
Brownfield News survey shows most Terry County gins wrapping up the 2002 season. West Gin reports about 30 bales left from one customer and 30 to 35 more in yard modules. Co-op Gin near finish with 27,300 bales processed and 500 remaining. Southwest Cotton Growers in Wellman has 400 bales left. Needmore Gin projects two weeks more, with 12,195 earned and 2,500 to go. Meadow Co-op and Lone Star Age near end, while Harmony and Johnson have completed. Total bales reached 132,035 with final 2002 tally 111,136.

Courthouse to be closed New Year’s Day
The Terry County Courthouse will be closed on New Year’s Day and again Friday January 2 except the County Judge’s office, open until 6 p.m. for independent candidates filing for spring primaries. Truett W. Brannon was named Vice President of Commercial Lending for ASB Brownfield, bringing over 30 years of banking experience.
