All Voters Must register In 1968

County tax assessor Akers says about 1,060 citizens already registered in 1968 and more will register in January the final month. Voters of all ages must register this year to vote. prior rules exempted some older residents. Registration by mail or at the Terry County courthouse is available. Secretary Hill announces statewide drive in January and a mail in form will be published weekly. Local citizens face a busy election year.

Herring Announces Candidacy for Terry County Precinct One

Olan Herring, a 56 year old retired farmer and native of Terry County, declares his bid for Precinct One Commissioner in the Democratic Primary of 1968. He vows improvements in roads and government, stressing his status as a landowner and taxpayer.

Brownfield Council Honors Brownfield Family With Gift Resolution

Mayor C E Ross and five councilmen issue a formal resolution thanking the family of A M Brownfield for bequeathing Block A of the South East Addition to the city. The document, dated December 21, 1967, expresses grateful appreciation to A M and Lottie Brownfield for the property transfer for the city's benefit.

Building Permits Fall to New Annual Low in December

December saw only three building permits issued totaling 1500 dollars, constraining the year to 349,336 dollars across 89 permits, including 11 new dwellings and five commercial structures. 1967 marks a low since 1965, with prior year totals at 1,720,309 dollars from 99 permits and 13 new residences plus nine commercial buildings.

Bale Count Reaches 84 084 In Terry County Season

Terry County has ginned 54 084 bales of cotton this season per a Texas Employment Commission report. The county is winding down as the local classing office closed and final 1966 bale count was 86 612 on December 20.

New Bus Facilities Under Construction in Brownfield

J R Young of Texas New Mexico and Oklahoma Coaches Inc announces a new 30 by 40 foot concrete block bus station in the 300 block of South Second Street Brownfield to open around February 1. The facility will have restrooms a lobby and ticket office with passenger comfort in mind.

Settle Seeks Re election As Commissioner in Terry County

H B Dock Settle announces his candidacy for re election as Commissioner for Jerry County Precinct Three ahead of the 1968 Democratic Primary. He invites scrutiny of precinct records at the courthouse or with him and cites the precincts strong finances and his farming background as assets.

Infant Cheryl Rae Young Rites Held in Lubbock

Funeral services for Cheryl Rae Young infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Darris Ray Young were held at 10 a.m. Friday at Kesthaven's Little Church of the Flowers in Lubbock with Doyle Kelcy officiating. Burial followed at Resthaven Memorial Park under Resthaven Funeral Home direction. The infant died Wednesday at West Texas Hospital. Survivors include both parents, grandparents Calvin Young of Lubbock and J. H. Pillow of Seagraves, great grandparents O. P. Mercer of Carlton, Ella B. Young of Kerrville, and F. K. Young of Seagraves.

Water District Election Voter Qualifications Explained

Voters in the South Plains Underground Water Conservation District will vote January 9 with absentee voting open until January 5 at the Terry County courthouse. Eligibility requires residence in the district precinct, ownership of taxable property, and 1967 voter registration or exemption. Precincts One through Five cover parts of Cochran Yoakum Terry Gaines and Seagraves, with designated polling boxes in the County Clerk's office and Union Bank. Water Measures Due In January

In January 1968, Texas Water Development Board and South Plains Underground Water Conservation District will measure water depths in about 40 Terry County wells. Data over five years show an average depletion of 8.84 feet among 22 wells, with one well rising. Results aid guideline maps for tax depletion allowances and water management. John J. Chamber Directors Schedule Meeting

Board members of the Terry County Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture will hold the first meeting of the year at 6 30 a m Wednesday and all members are urged to be present. The agenda includes naming a membership chairman banquet plans and a hearing on junior colleges.
