Hospital Board Seeks Furniture Bids For New Facility

The Terry Memorial Hospital District will hold a special meeting at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Brownfield General Hospital nurses classroom to review bids on bedroom furniture and telephones filed by 3 p.m. Monday. Bids show Gernsbacher's of Fort Worth at 27000 for kitchen equipment and Will Ross Inc of Dallas at 21083.84 for hospital equipment.

Law Officers Busy Over Holidays Report

During the Christmas holidays law officials logged calls for drunkenness in public in cars and residences and fireworks inside city limits. Multiple arrests followed with fines and bonds including Arthur Ramos 150 dollars for property destruction and drunkenness. Gabriel Martinez Jr. 125 for car theft and drunkenness. John L. Person 1000 bond for assault with intent to murder and 50 for a firearm. Emilia Salazar 25 fine for minor in possession. George Flores Garza 25 fine for minor in possession. Alex Grimaldo Deleon 59 for public intoxication and affray. Apollonia Rodriguez 25 for discharging firearms. Angel Hernandez Bravo 25 for simple assault. Lepard Named to All South Plains Football Team

Richard Lepard of Brownfield High School earns second straight spot on the All South Plains team noted by Jim Gintonio as a versatile defensive back. The senior, 187 pounds, posted strong tackle totals, seven interceptions, and solid punt return yardage, with other duties including quarterbacking. Mickey Graves also earned honorable mention as a lineman.

Terry County reports November bond sales totaling 4900, part of 11 month total 74319 toward a 1969 goal of 100000. Texas statewide November sales reach 12962104 with 161490677 for 11 months, 95 percent of the 170.1 million goal. Interest rate on United States Savings Bonds was raised to five percent at maturity, effective after five years and 10 months. Freedom Shares will be removed from sale on June 30, 1970. note allotments should be placed at banks.

Holiday Notice In Brownfield Businesses Schedule

Terry County offices close at 5 p.m. Wednesday and take Thursday through Sunday off for New Year’s. City Hall closes New Year’s Day and reopens Friday. Banking institutions also close one day. The Brownfield News will publish the Sunday Jan. 4 issue after the holiday. The Chamber lists five legal holidays including New Year’s Day and Christmas Day.

TGSPB Moves to Form Advisory Committee in 29-County Region

The Texas Grain Sorghum Producers Board seeks help from the Texas Agricultural Extension Service to establish an advisory committee serving 29 High Plains counties. Local county agents urge Crops Subcommittees to appoint one producer per county to advise the 12-member board and to invite annual reports from board representatives.

Schools Enter A-J Spelling Bee In Avalanche-Journal

Houston Ek Stevens, county school superintendent, announces Terry County schools will participate in the Avalanche Journal Spelling Bee. Jones Placed On Committee On Elderly Relief

Delwin Jones of Rock is named to a House committee studying problems of Texans over 65. Chair John Hannah and Tony Dramberger join Mutscher to review relief channels, especially tax relief, as elderly numbers rise and inflation strains fixed incomes. The pane will examine many options to ease unpaid bills and ensure comfort in later years.

County Receives Seal Coat Work Across Lubbock District

Texas Highway Commission awards seal coat contract for 230 miles in Lubbock district. W. D. Turner Construction Co. of Lubbock bids $709,091.95 to cover 37.5 miles in Terry and eight other counties. Project led by District Engineer O L Crain with James W. King in charge. about 40 working days.
