Terry County Commissioners approved replacing Brownfield Police Chief Roy Rice as Emergency Management Coordinator with Mitch McElroy and naming Rusty Cavett as assistant. Rice resigns to become Stamford city manager at end of 2006. Cavett and McElroy trained to share duties.
LYNN BRISENDINE reflects on a calm 2006 marked by war tolls and recovery advances in medicine. She welcomes a hopeful 2007 while noting local Brownfield improvements, new faces, and plans for hotels pools restaurants and business growth.
A farewell reception for Brownfield Police Chief Roy Rice is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday Dec. 29 at Brownfield City Hall.
Terry County Chief Tax Appraiser Ronny Burran addressed Brownfield City Council on the Stacy Mason V&L Furniture Store project. A public tax sale yielded no bids, with taxes totaling about 444 post judgement. Baker Duncan, representing Higginbotham, offered 17,500, to fund demolition and potential redevelopment of Main Street lot. Four taxing entities share undivided interest in the property, with final approval pending by South Plains Underground Water Conservation District. An update on the City water park complex was also presented by engineer Holly Holder, who sees no major structural problems if maintained properly.
