American Legion To Honor Officer 1967 Outstanding Officer

The American Legion Post 269 will sponsor its second annual Outstanding Officer of the Year banquet on February 6 to honor a Terry County police, sheriff, or highway patrol officer who has lived in the county for at least one year. The winner receives a $100 prize and an engraved plaque, with roses for spouse, selected by a local committee. A nomination form appears in this and the following edition.

Drivers License Office Opens in Terry County

Terry County opens a new Driver's License Division after the first of the year with Mary Lou Laird in charge under L. J. Foster. Images are now required for licenses and eye tests will be done. photos and tests available five days a week 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Written tests Fridays. Cotton 4-H Production Contest Deadlines Set

The Terry County 4-H Cotton Production Contest is sponsored by ten gins and co-ops including Brownfield Co-Op, Meadow Co-Op, South Gin Co-Op, Hi Plains Co-Op, Newsom Gin Inc, Lahey Gin, Needmore Gin, Johnson Gin, West Gin Inc, and Terry County Gin. Entries must have complete records sent to the County Extension Office by January 8. Winners in dry land and irrigated divisions advance to the District Cotton Production Contest later.

New Reporting Service For Terry Farmers Announced

ASCS inaugurates a reporting system to aid Terry County farmers. W A Pulford says the service totals payments and associated direct costs, with data gathered from county offices and processed in New Orleans and Kansas City. Farmers will receive printed reports by mail and are advised to verify totals against farm records, contacting their county office for corrections.

Mrs. Bynum Heads Easter Seal Chapter in Terry County

Virgil Bynum was elected chairman of the Easter Seal Chapter for Crippled Children and Adults of Terry County. The local group adopts a budget and operates with state support and services to 16,031 helped in Texas last year including medical, therapy, education, and equipment programs.

Bale Count Reaches 81 799 Bales For County

A Texas Employment Commission report shows 81 799 cotton bales ginned countywide this season as of Thursday noon. The tally reflects bales counted up to that point with earlier figures noted for December and prior crop years.

Seventeen Greenhands Advance to Chapter Farmer Rank at Brownfield FFA

Seventeen Brownfield High School FFA members were advanced from Greenhand to Chapter Farmer at a ceremony. Brownfield Council Updates Pay Plan for CRMWA Water

Brownfield city leaders heard a report on revised CRMWA repayment terms and Water Department expenses for the coming fiscal year. City manager Jake Geron said the new schedule cuts the first payment by 14 670 to 76 730 and lowers all 50 installments. He outlined operating costs totaling 247 817 including treatment, bond requirements, and capital outlay.

Veterans to Receive 1968 NSLI Dividends

Veterans with National Service Life Insurance policies will receive about 20 million in dividends in 1968. The average payment is expected near 33 dollars, with roughly 2,500 policyholders in the state of Texas receiving NSLI dividends and total USGLI payouts since 1950 around 7.2 billion by 1968.

Kendrick Memorial Library Closed for Christmas and New Year

Kendrick Memorial Library will stay closed through Tuesday for Christmas holidays. The library will also be closed Jan. 1 for New Year's Day, per librarian Mrs. Merle Weir.

Rev McDowell Speaks To Brownfield Optimist Club

Brownfield Optimist Club held its final pre Christmas meeting at noon Thursday with Bob Burris presiding. Rev Albert McDowell of First United Presbyterian Church spoke on the Christmas story noting Jesus birth date and the origins of Christmas traditions including Santa Claus and the Christmas tree. Dean Murphy reported on Christmas tree sales and urged more help to close out the sales. Burris closed with holiday wishes.
