Brownfield Cubs Gain Tourney Experience

The Brownfield boys varsity basketball team played three tough games in the Reese Air Force Base Tournament last weekend. In the opener they edged Big Spring 57 to 56 behind balanced scoring with Brown, Hill, and Burse contributing double figures and the Cubs rallying 23-8 in the final period to pull away. Harrell and Wyatt led Brownfield with 16 and 10 points against Dimmitt, while Wyatt grabbed nine rebounds as the Cubs fell 85-54 to the defending Class AAA state champions. The coach praised hustle and free throw shooting as keys to the close win.

County OKs 237440 bid for courthouse elevator remodel

Terry County commissioners in special session approved a 237,440 dollar bid from Lee Elevator for courthouse remodeling. The plan includes a new elevator, second floor landing, renovated restrooms, and replacement of all cold water pipes with copper, with Atmar Atkinson guiding the project in collaboration with county officials. The elevator now stops only on the third floor and has caused several breakdowns since 1951.

Vandalism and Burglaries Hit Local Institutions

Brownfield police list a busy weekend with break ins at First Baptist Church and Brownfield Middle School. Two juveniles aged 16 and 14 were arrested in connection with church and school burglaries. Estimated damage at the church about 3500 dollars with 400 dollars in property taken including a tape recorder. Brownfield Middle School offices were entered with desks and filing cabinets searched.

From Balancing Wires To Child Proof Tops An Old Debate

A mix of opinions on regulations and gadgets opens with a columnist noting frustrations with child proof tops on bottles and praising a simple tool. Police report multiple weekend break ins including two TV sets valued at about 1100 dollars, a safe and dolly, and various windows broken. Brownfield Woman Killed Crossing Seagraves Highway

Reba Elaine Dean, 33, of Brownfield, was struck and killed early Saturday while crossing the Seagraves Highway in the 900 block. She died at Brownfield Regional Medical Center where Justice of the Peace Carolyn Proctor ruled the death accidental. Dean, a native of Post, had moved to Brownfield six months ago.
