Penalty tax dispute settles at school board meeting
The Trus tees unanimously allowed 14 of 54 elapsed days as grace on a $35 967 Hunter Construction Co project for a transportation center in Lubbock, while 40 days were charged as a penalty. The extension delays included utility connection and electrical panel changes, with a 34 day steel beam delay contested by the contractor. The board approved the penalties after architect Brasher supported the beam delay as not contractor fault. Also discussed was a tax equalization study committee to review oil and residential valuations versus farm property, with organizational actions and a January 4 study session planned. The board set February 3 for a joint meeting to review findings.
