The Terry County United Way Drive funds programs including the Lubbock Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse. If the drive hits its 38000 dollar target, five thousand dollars will support the council. The Brownfield satellite is among the sponsored efforts.
The report outlines United Way allocations including American Red Cross 2000, Boy Scouts 1800, Salvation Army 1000, West Texas Children’s Center 630, Goodfellows 600, Women’s Protective Services 500, and Big Brothers Big Sisters. It notes 2500 for admin salaries 650 for campaign expenses and 250 for dues, plus upcoming fundraisers such as a cooking booth and a Phone-A-Thon with KKUB Radio to boost donations and support youth programs like the Heroes puppet program.
A limited run of 100 Terry County afghans, depicting local life, is now available through Terry County Clerk Ann Willis at $48.71 each. Terry County entomologist notes a Texas Service experiment in Lubbock County with buried pest cages to gauge weevil survival. Cages will be dug up periodically, possibly after the cold spell, to assess habitat survival. Moisture and weather conditions are expected to influence outcomes.
Sharp's office disbursed a total of 144.9 million to 1,084 Texas cities and 13.9 million to 117 counties, up 25.9 percent from last December's 115 million and 11.5 million.
EmergiCare, the ambulance service for Brownfield and Terry County, launches Home For The Holidays a free program for nursing home residents and hospitalized elderly to spend Christmas Eve and Day with families.
