Young Farmers to Meet Tonight in Terry County

Terry County Young Farmers convene in regular session at 73 tonight in the High School Agriculture building. John McFarland will present a credit program with a short film "Credit where Credit is Due" on the National Farm Credit set up. Plans for the annual state competition in Austin Jan 34 will be discussed. Brownfield Seed and Debiting Company will pay hotel expenses for all couples attending the convention. A turkey shoot for this weekend is set by the Young Farmers and final meeting plans will be made.

Shooting altercation and gambling arrests reported

Investigation into a Saturday shooting continues as suspects in a cafe dispute on 1107 N 6th are identified. Victim Willie B Presley 28 Austin worker Brownfield sustained wounds after an argument in the cafe. William Braziell arrested soon after by city police and Constable Homer Parker.

Ice Triggers Mishaps Across Terry County on Ice

A series of five crashes tied to slick roads hit Terry County on Wednesday. Texas Highway Patrol reported early accidents near Brownfield on US 62 involved Cristobal Gutierrez and Gery Kay Oliver with vehicle damage around 600 dollars. A second crash injured Mamie Wicker Kirchner and involved a 1960 Chevrolet sedan and other vehicles. A separate 8:40 a m turnover near Wellman left no serious injuries. A 10:36 a m crash at US 62 in Seagraves injured Mamie Wicker Kirchner. Additional incidents included a Meadow area assault case and multiple gambling and drunkenness arrests by Sheriff’s deputies.

Ayes Have It In Meadows Bond Election

Meadow voters approved a $117000 bond package in three measures. The Meadow School classroom addition won 59 yes to 20 no for $84000. A vocational agriculture building for $20000 passed 51 to 21 and the athletic field house for $13000 won 46 to 33. About 28 percent turnout despite snow conditions.

Cold Weather With Sparse Moisture Baffles Lubbock Area

Plentiful cold temperatures linger across the region with little precipitation. Lubbock weather forecasts a warming trend by weekend while Brownfield station KTFY notes a record low of 18 degrees on Rec 12 and a monthly high of 69 degrees on Dec 7. Only trace moisture has been detected with Dec 14 and Dec 18 listed as precipitation days amid icy conditions triggering an uptick in local accidents Wednesday morning.

Pioneer Gas Employees Honored at Awards Dinner

Pioneer Natural Gas Co. held its annual service awards dinner at Brownfield Country Club honoring area employees and spouses. C. I. Wall delivered the keynote as Joe L. Price served as master of ceremonies. A. E. Richardson received a 20 year pin. other 10 to 15 year awardees included R. C. Harvick J. Childers R. D. Dever and R. D. Maxwell. Vernon Clem earned a bronze achievement plaque for selling over 100 tons of gas air conditioning. Guests from Amarillo and Lubbock attended. Fred Harwell gave the invocation.

Area Schools Dismiss Friday for Christmas Holidays

Area schools will dismiss for Christmas holidays Friday. Brownfield lines show 2:30 p.m. dismissal and Jan. 6 return. Brownfield High holds a 1:30 to 2:30 assembly and door-decorating winners announced then. Meadow and Union and Wellman schools also dismiss Friday with varied return dates, and Meadow hosts a 7:30 Christmas program in the high school auditorium.
