Terry County approves Bowmen bid for sheriff vehicle

The Terry County Commissioners accepted Bow man Motor Company bid of 2195 dollars as trade difference for a 1968 Oldsmobile and a new 1970 Oldsmobile for the sheriff's department, correcting a prior report of 2295 dollars.

Local Scouts honored for financial support and leadership

W. A. Dub Leigon presented plaques to John Kendrick Newell Reed and L. J. Richardson Jr. for their dedication to the South Plains Council Boy Scouts of America. Kendrick led in council and district roles improving scouting. Reed led sustaining membership enrollment strengthening the district. Richardson, a First National Bank VP, has long supported scouting and served as a unit leader.

Victory Party Ends Campaign in Terry County

The 1969 Terry County United Fund exceeded its $25,500 goal, raising $26,012 with $469 pledged. A 5 to 6 p.m. Friday victory celebration followed a 7 a.m. Oct. 21 kickoff. Three Arrests For Car Thefts Reported In Temple

Local law officials detained three men this week on car theft charges. Ches ter Thomas Joe Albert Th as and Tommie Lee Gray were released to Temple authorities. Reyes O Alcorta faced three burglary counts and bonds of 2000 each. Juveniles were arrested for theft under 5 and turned over to the juvenile officer. Pedro Pacheco Martinez charged with simple assault paid a 25 dollar fine. Several others faced charges from drunkenness to forgery with fines and bonds. Juan Canales Rodriguez remains jailed after probation revocation.

Brownfield Ambulance Service Contract Approved

The Terry Memorial Hospital Board accepts the city plan to run Brownfield and Terry County ambulance service. The one year contract starts Jan 1 1970 with $400 monthly payments, one new ambulance, and an ambulance barn. Hospital will be audited by Burnett and Black.

Babe Ruth Film Premiered For Youth Baseball Fans

A 16mm color film titled The Babe and the Boys debuts at a New York press luncheon to promote organized Babe Ruth Baseball for youths. MS Campaign Nets Over $1000 in Brownfield Drive

The Brownfield MS fundraiser on December 1 coordinated by Mrs. Jo Hickman raised a little over 1000 dollars. Rev. Jack Garrett led as general chairman with captains Nancy Shirley Lamon Jones Jerry Trice Kelly Jennings Karen Wilson Carey White Janet Nelson Sherry Burrows and James Morris. The Brownfield State Bank and Trust Co kept hours open to collect funds and provide refreshments while workers received thanks for donations and efforts.

Goodfellows Work For Yuletide Cheer

Brownfield Goodfellows collect new and used toys from firemen and repair ones to a good as new state. Donations go to 120 families totaling 417 children. Terry County United Fund contributes 600 dollars yearly for a Christmas dinner.

Terry County Cotton Harvest Tops Sixty-Four Thousand Bales

The Texas Employment Commission reports Terry County has harvested 64,054 bales of cotton so far this season, 11,506 more than last week. Adverse weather briefly paused picking, and December 15, 1968 figures show 91,402 bales or 27,748 more than this year’s count.

Trustees to Meet in Brownfield ISD Board Session

Brownfield Consolidated Independent School District trustees meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Colonial Heights Library. Supt. W. O. Caraway, curriculum director Dr. D. T. Craver, and business director James Willis will report. Two resignations to be considered. A 1970 textbook committee report and the tentative 1970 board meeting schedule will be discussed.
