Harvest progress looks strong for Terry County cotton
IPM Extension Agent Scott Russell says the 2005 cotton harvest is about 85 to 90 percent finished with over 90 percent stripped. Weather has been favorable since October, with a recent freeze timed well for crop maturation. Yields are described as strong, with many dryland and irrigated fields reaching or exceeding one bale per acre. If current conditions hold, virtually all stripping could be done by Christmas, ahead of last year. The 2005 Terry County Base Count passes 140,000 bales, listing totals by gin and a Tokio Co-op figure of 12,333 bales.
