Terry County United Fund workers will run a telephone campaign at 7 30 p m Thursday Dec 11 to reach uncontacted donors in a bid to close the year’s drive. General chairman W A Dubli leon says the effort aims to push the total past 25550 and wind up the 1969 campaign.

Farm Census To Be Made By Mail

The 1969 farm census will be conducted by mail with no census takers. In January 1970 every farm operator will receive a form to fill and return. Responses are confidential and will be published by county state and nation totals with data on farm size value of land and buildings work time off farm jobs and equipment counts.

Area Teachers Attend Educational Programs

Seven Brownfield area teachers visited Hillcrest Elementary in Plainview to observe the IPI Individually Prescribed Instruction project. The Plainview program, limited to math for grades 1-6, uses 15 math areas at eight levels each and assigns tasks based on tests of each child's strengths and weaknesses.

Groundbreaking Ceremonies For Hospital Slated

A groundbreaking ceremony for the 50 bed Brownfield General Hospital will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at 707 E Felt Street. Past Terry Memorial Hospital District presidents Lee Bartlett Ronald Stice Robert Baumgardner and J W Riley will participate with current trustees L G Smith Bill Cowan Ralph Spain Stice Robert Beasley and John L Cruce. A bid of 1 055275 was awarded Oct 30 to Dick Miller and Sons of El Paso. Architects are Atcheson Atkinson and Cartwright of Lubbock. Equipment bids will follow.

Dr. Deter Urges Prevention Over Drug Use at School

El Paso surgeon Dr. Russell L. Deter spoke at Brownfield High School and to eighth graders and adults about drug abuse. He warned drugs yield hallucinations and loss of control, urged coping with problems, and stressed morality, family support, and personal responsibility.

Local Rotarians Hear on SPF Hog Operation in Brownfield

Don Tankersley spoke to the Brownfield Rotary Club about Brownfield Swine Producers Inc. a new SPF hog operation. The farm will start with 120 sows and grow to 600 with 34 houses, using a cross of Hampshire Yorkshire and Duroc.

Bale Harvest in Terry County as Of Friday Morning

Terry County reports 52 544 bales of cotton harvested this season up 14 024 from last week and 6 471 below the Dec 6 1968 total. Last year Dec 6 total was 59 019 bales. Yearly totals remain under 100 000 but prospects brighten for a better crop than first predicted.

City Considers Shared Ambulance Service Plan

Brownfield City Council discussed a one year proposal to split ambulance costs three ways among the city county and Terry Memorial Hospital District. The Brownfield Police Department would operate the service with monthly payments of 400 by the county and hospital district beginning Jan 1 1970.
