Inflation’s bite hits Terry County families in one year

Economic studies show the average Terry County household lost 161 in purchasing power over the past year due to inflation. With an average income of 5845 per household, local families faced significant declines while national figures indicate a 48.1 cent value for the dollar since 1939 and a $200 billion overall loss in 20 years.

Cotton harvest tally grows in Terry with 12 756 bales

The weekly cotton count shows Terry gins reporting 12 756 bales by Friday noon, far below last year’s 106 760. Joe Spears of the Texas Employment Commission notes an updated Terry harvest estimate now at 131 500 bales, while Yoakum reports 24 545 bales, about 95 percent of its projected yield.

Suit filed over Lubbock butane explosion deaths

Damages totaling 115000 were sought in a Lubbock court over a December 22 butane truck explosion that killed J B Ray his wife Iby Ray and three others. Plaintiffs include Iby Ray and daughters Clara Jo Lenda Faye and Neva Lois Terry County residents.

Ag Census To Reveal New Facts In Terry County

The 1959 Census of Agriculture underway in Terry County will update farm statistics last collected in 1954. In 1954 farm operators reported total products sold of 17,195,355 with crops valued at 16,728,891 including field crops 16,702,988 vegetables 14,917 fruits and nuts 836 and horticultural specialties 10,150. Livestock products sold totaled 466,464 including dairy 86,179 poultry 65,634 and other livestock 314,651.

Parker bags two deer near Sabinal on uncle’s Texas ranch

Butch Parker of 721 East Cardwell returned from Sabinal with two buck deer shot on his uncle Lewis Parker’s ranch. Using a 30.06 Remington, Parker marked his third deer since beginning this hunt one year ago. He is the son of Mrs. Wayland Parker and the late Monk Parker.
