Absentee Voters Begin For City Election
Brownwood voters within city limits may cast absentee ballots for the September 11 city charter commission through September 7. Ballots are available at the city secretary’s office. Two propositions appear on the ballot: whether to form a commission to draft a new city charter and the election of a 15 member charter commission from 17 candidates listed on the ballot.

Accidental Shot Wounds Early Boy
Craig Carson, 14, son of Rev and Mrs Ed H Carson of Early, was wounded Sunday afternoon when a .22 rifle held by 14 year old Joe Boyd Tatum discharged. The bullet entered the right groin and lodged in the left hip during hawk hunting. Sheriff reported the gun fired as Tatum tried to remove a cartridge.

Early Equalization Board Sets Tax Valuation in Town

The will of Mrs. Annie Laura Marvel names Miss Meady Mae Coomer of Brownwood as sole heir and executrix. Mrs. Marvel's body was found in Lake Brownwood after her husband reported she fell from an embankment. The case includes autopsy notes, state lab tests for poison, and a police inquiry with Texas Ranger involvement.

Brownwood Man Dies in Highway 380 Crash
Martin Matlock a 31 year old driver for Santa Fe Trail Transportation died when the car he rode in overturned and hit a powerline pole on U S Highway 380 near Yoakum County. James Henderson a fellow Santa Fe driver was in the car. Matlock born April 4 1926 served in World War II and is survived by a widow a son and daughter and his parents two brothers and a sister. Burial followed services at Granbury cemetery. Interment was at Granbury cemetery after f uneral service. Matlock lived in Fort Worth before moving to Brownwood in 1962. He was a Coggin Avenue Baptist Church member.

District Judge T M Collie of the Gist district court at Engtland will be in Brownwood Friday August 27 to preside at a session of 35th district court. The term will continue as long as necessary to hear current cases. Judge Collie was assigned to the local court by District Judge Floyd Jones of the 90th district court at Breckenridge presiding judge of the 80th administrative district of Texas. Judge A O Newman of the 25th district court has been in for the past few weeks and is in Temple for treatment.
