Old Settlers Set Reunion for This Saturday

The 45th Annual Terry County Old Settlers Reunion is in the American Legion Hall on Saturday Aug. 27. Registration starts at 9 30 a m with a noon lunch provided by H Bar C and Harvest Festival Queen candidates assisting. Tickets are 10 per person with prizes and recognitions for longevity and distance traveled. For details contact Terry County Clerk Ann Willis at 637 8551.

Terry County Commissioners Set Monday Morning Agenda

The Terry County Commissioners will convene at 10 a.m. Monday in regular session with items including July reports from the Sheriff and Constable. Council helps children of migrant workers

MITCH WORD reports that the Texas Migrant Council operates a no cost Head Start center at 1311 West McNeil Street serving children from five weeks to five years old. The program offers health services, immunizations, transportation, a USDA funded nutrition program with three meals daily, GED assistance, language classes and volunteer opportunities. The center aims to educate parents and reach migrant families through letters and community outreach to farms and churches.

Brownfield Council Declares Dates for 2005 Tax Budget Hearings

Brownfield city council sets dates for the 2005-2006 budget hearing and two public hearings on the 2008 property tax rate. City Manager Eldon Jobe presents the preliminary budget for 2005-2006. council approves Sept. 1 for budget hearing and Sept. 1 and Sept. 15 for tax rate hearings under new state law. Jobe asks to set the tax rate at 49.000 cents, same as last year.

BIDCorp approves 2005-2006 budget in unusual session

The Brownfield Industrial Development BIDCorp Board of Directors approved a 2005-2006 budget with no capital outlay, totaling 98,842 in expenses including 72,242 for personnel. Unanimous vote by Max Grice, Glenn Waters, and Tom Hess. Executive Director Cargill proposed Rusty Wilson as a new oil industry representative. Wilson was approved. Cargill reported June funds at 548,510.43 and July at 569,418.15 and discussed plans for another dairy in Terry County.
