Terry County Commissioners met in special session to cut costs for 1999 and voted not to open the Terry County Park pool next summer. Attendance has declined for several summers, averaging 30 to 40 youths daily this season, while fixed costs for lifeguards chemicals and utilities remain.
Judge Kelly Moore handed down sentences to four individuals in the 121st District Court. Sylvia Gonzales Rodriguez received 18 months in state jail plus three years supervision for endangering a child and must pay court costs, a monthly supervision fee, and perform 120 hours of community service in Terry County. Ruben E. Rodriguez drew a 10 year sentence for burglary with 10 years supervision, plus restitution, court costs, and a time payment. Rogelio Arenas Arenivar got 25 months state jail, five years probation, and 180 days jail or space in a treatment facility, remaining in Dawson County with 140 restitution, court costs, and 120 hours community service. Valentine Luna received 18 months for cocaine possession and three years supervision, remaining in Hockley County with fines, restitution, supervision fees, and 120 hours community service.
