Rain drought threatens Terry County dryland and peanut crops
Terry County extension agent Scott Russell says moisture is critical for dryland yields and to leach salinity from irrigation. No rain is in sight for several days as heat drives rapid plant stress. He notes deficit irrigation hampers crops but a slow two inch rain could boost cotton fruit set and peanut pod filling. The USDA still estimates over three million bales for the region, though meeting that is uncertain.
