The Spirit of the Plains Band will perform its annual beginning of school concert at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Terry County Park Amphitheater. The program includes contest tunes and stand songs, with booster shirts and caps for sale. Admission is free and ice cream and cake will be served after.
Miranda Cornelius, a Wellman Union High athlete, excelled in cross country, basketball, track, and tennis. She aims for a state cross country title and college basketball, recounting summer league success and a knee injury that sharpened her resolve. Terry County Commissioners met to review July 2000 sheriff and justice of the peace reports. The jail population stood at 1025 with 7452 inmates housed this year. offenses ranged from roaming livestock to methamphetamine with intoxication the top charge. A $43,880 bill from the U S Marshals Service for July inmate housing was noted, Yoakum County owing $6,570. Justice of the Peace reported 341 criminal traffic misdemeanors and 12 new traffic.
