The Chamber invites nominations for the 1992 Farm Tour honorees with a September 2 deadline. Nominations go to the U S C S Office at 201 East Hill Street. A page 4 application and the four award criteria including Outstanding Farm Family are summarized for readers.
Brownfield trustees will hold a budget public hearing at 7 p.m. in the Administration Building followed by a regular board meeting at 7:30 p.m. Citizens may speak during the hearing. Items include adopting and amending the 1991-92 budget, education service contract, interlocal tax collection contract, revised policies, site based decision making plan, animal clinic request, teacher appraisers, appraisal periods and 1992-92 lunch prices.
Six Texas Tech standouts highlight 128 athletes across eight sports named to the Southwest Conference Women s All Decade Team in celebration of the 10th anniversary of SWC Women s Athletics. Sheryl Swoopes helped the Lady Raiders win both regular season and postseason SWC basketball crowns.
Union High School will field a junior varsity six man football team this season, the first varsity or junior varsity program in 15 years. Coach James Adkins said players are inexperienced but ready to learn and that road games dominate the schedule through Oct. 15. He hopes a new stadium and possible daytime home games may follow next year as public support remains strong.
Summer of 92 closes as Terry County youths return to Wellman Meadow Brownfield and Union schools this week. Wellman high school and elementary registrations occur Monday morning. Meadow starts 8:30 pm, Brownfield high already registered, Labor Day closures noted. Union starts Thursday with 3-4:30 pm registration for students through eighth grade.
