Hospital directors approve tax hike and recruitment plan

On August 16 1989 the Terry County Memorial Hospital District board set property tax at .14911 per 100 valuation with five votes for and one against. The 1989 90 budget was approved and a $100 000 recruitment offer to Dr Randy Rozean was tendered to relocate to Brownfield for a medical practice during a special session.

Postmaster warns of lobby vandalism in Brownfield

Brownfield Postmaster Conrad Cabe told the News in recent weeks the post office has faced significant vandalism in the box lobby and with vehicles. He said officials monitor the facility, cooperate with police, and have not yet caught any suspects. If vandalism continues, the lobby may close at 5 20 p m and reopen at 6 a m daily, locking from 4 10 p m.

Muldrow briefs on Railroad groups status

Ken Muldrow, Terry County rep on SPARTC, says Santa Fe’s Brownfield Seagraves spur and four other spurs face options of abandonment, rehabilitation or sale. With a $1.4 million judgment, Santa Fe is cash constrained and may seek commitments from shippers to fund a buyout, SPARTC notes. The consultant cites Brownfield Seagraves and Levelland spurs as profitable.

Swoopes Horner Honored by Optimist Club in Brownfield

Brownfield High School standout Craig Horner and Sheryl Swoopes were named Optimist honorees for July as top local graduates. Horner, 18, joined Abilene Christian University on a full scholarship after finishing fourth in a class of 132 and earning multiple academic awards, while also excelling in band and computer programming. Swoopes, 18, is praised for her decorated athletic and scholastic record.

Sheriff Posse Horse Show This Weekend

Region I of the American Association of Sheriff Posses and Riding Clubs hosts the finals at Terry County arena on Saturday August 19 with contestants from San Angelo Copperas Cove Austin Fort Worth Seminole and Lubbock. Showtime starts 10 a.m. with judged classes and running events plus a 7 30 a.m. breakfast for the three contestants bidding for 1990 Queen at the Crystal Palace.

Brownfield Council to Discuss Tax Rate and City Projects
