Voters Reject Two Amendments In Terry County Ballot

Terry County voters cast 625 ballots Saturday with absentee 111 as turnout drowns near the lowest since the early 1970s. Proposition 1 failed 338 to 270 amid precincts 4 6 7 8 and 11 showing modest support while Proposition 2 fell 322 to 287 denying up to 300 million in general obligation bonds for student loan funding by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

Terry County votes against water district creation

In a light turnout Terry County voters vetoed the South Plains Underground Water Conservation District by 345 to 261. The special election aimed to fund the district with a 2 cent tax per $100 valuation. Only precincts 7 10 and 11 supported it and absentee ballots favored against by 51 to 56.

Brownfield Community College Fall Registration Begins

Brownfield Community College will offer evening, one night a week classes at Brownfield High School for a full semester starting Monday, August 26. Registration is August 20 and 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the West entrance. Courses are fully accredited through South Plains College and cost about 89 dollars for three semester hours with a 15 dollar lab fee for computer classes. Books run 30 to 40 dollars per course.
