United Fund Sets 1967 Goal at 27065 in Lae

Vernon Clem announces the 1967 United Fund goal of 27065 at United Fund Board meeting. Campaign runs October 30 to November 29 with division chairmen and workers to be named later. Twelve agencies will participate in the drive.

Sidewalk Sale Plans Set for Fourth Annual Event

Jim Bayless chairs the Terry County Chamber plan for the Aug 28 sidewalk sale where merchants dress in costumes and cash prizes will go to best outfits. Phil Porter named chair of the sale. budget includes United Fund allocations and a $100 dues cap. Contingency funds, volunteers, and local fund expenses are outlined with John J. Kendrick presiding.

Brownfield Rotary hears Brownfield topic and city rundown

Jake Geron city manager presented Brownfield as the Rotary program noting 53 city employees and civic assets. He described the Lake Meredith water intake, the power plant and water system, and praised the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority. Members invited scholarship applicants and youth volunteers for events and announced the Harvest Festival plans.

City Council approves Little League land use plan

Melton Stewart representing Terry County Little League asked to use 500 by 500 feet of city land between the water tank and National Guard Armory on South Second Street for ballparks. The agreement grants a 10 year lease with city reentry rights and funds for lighting raised by volunteers and civic clubs.

Mrs Mason Wins 5 Dollar Tip In News Tip Contest

Mrs. Mason is awarded five dollars for the best news tip about an invitation to Monty Jenson from Penrose Metcalf, former state representative and senator. The story appears on page three of today’s NEWS. Pauline Smith submitted a story claiming she was in Missouri when the item appeared there.

Brownfield LVN Class Opens August Thirtieth

Brownfield General Hospital announces a 1967 65 LVN program starting August 30 with a 12 month curriculum. Application deadline is August 21. Tuition 50 dollars for Terry County residents and 150 dollars for non residents plus 50 dollars for uniforms. Training includes 550 hours classroom and 1528 hours clinical work across obstetrics medical surgical pediatrics dietetics kitchen nursery and medications. After two months of training students receive stipends rising to 80 dollars monthly in the final four months. Graduation requires passing four state LVN exams and capping ceremonies noting hospital availability of LVN caps and pins.

Young Farmers Set Field Day at Welden Mason Farm

About 550 Young Farmers will gather Saturday at the Wel don Mason farm for the annual Field Day sponsored by the Young Farmers of Texas. Ten agri business firms supply materials for demonstrations on cotton milo forage crops soybeans and Midland bermuda. Demonstrations are planned by firm reps Mason and Texas A M Lubbock staff.

Meadow School District will hold a public hearing on the proposed 1967 68 school budget at 8 30 p m Monday in the Meadow Elementary board room Trustees and other school personnel will answer questions from attending citizens.

No Consideration Charged at Terry County Memorial Hospital Board

During a brief meeting the Terry County Memorial Hospital Board faced a heated outburst from Calvert Curry of a reform group over Dr. R. C. Burns staff admission, while routine items included duct and wiring upgrades at Brownfield General Hospital and a $1,200 defibrillator purchase under medical staff recommendations. The session noted July finances with 124 admissions and 20 births, and approved termite control bid and emergency room paving.

July Building Permits Drop In Lewis Simmonds’ Report

July proved slow for building permits as inspector Lewis Simmonds issued only three permits totaling 435 dollars. Yearly total rises to 49 permits amounting to 179811 dollars. City Tennis Tournament Seeks Entries

The second annual City Tennis Tournament invites entries via the Jerry County Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture. The event runs August 24 to 26 with junior senior and young adult divisions. Open Auction Set By GSA For Former PQ Building

The General Services Administration announces an open auction for the old Post Office building in Fort Worth after canceling sealed bids. The sale will start August 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Flame Room at Pioneer Natural Gas Company and is open to individuals organizations or government agencies.
