Car crashes off embankment injures three in Wellman area
Frank Hernandez 20 of Victoria escaped injury when his 1953 Ford went out of control on Farm Road 396 5.7 miles west of Wellman striking a utility pole after tumbling over an embankment. Passengers Rios Guerrero and Martin DeLeon Lordes were treated for back injuries. Hernandez was charged with driving while intoxicated and fined 271.70 in Peace Justice court.

Drowning Death Of 18 Month Old In Hobbs Tub

Brownfield Post Office Receipts Fall in Summer
Postal receipts for June 23 to July 20 dropped from 11134 to 10302, a decline of 832 from a year ago. Postmaster William C. Brown cites reduced bracero business as the main cause, noting 150 registered letters this year versus 600 last year. Excluding bracero work, receipts are similar to prior periods.

Scouts to Host Quanah Parker swimming meet here
More than 100 youths will attend the Quanah Parker District Boy Scouts of America swimming meet at the Terry County Swimming Pool Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Brownfield Rotary Club and Howard-Henson Post 269 of The American Legion will sponsor a Friday supper and Saturday breakfast. Five events include freestyle, back stroke, breast stroke, side stroke, and three man medley with brackets for juniors seniors and explorers. Ribbons awarded for first to third and for highest troop points.

Four Hurt In Mishap Near Meadow City Limits
Four people were injured in a late night crash when a 1953 Chevrolet coach hit a 1959 Thunderbird parked on the center median of the Lubbock Highway near Meadow. Injured were Kenneth Kucauskas 15 of Lubbock Geor ge Crain 32 Billy Wayne Brooks 23 and Glenna Ruby Palmer 47 of Fort Worth. Crain driver of the Chevrolet suffered severe facial lacerations and loss of consciousness. Brooks sustained scalp and facial injuries and broken teeth. Palmer had a crushed foot and head lacerations. Kucauskas suffered a broken shoulder and leg. transferred to West Texas Hospital. Officer Lenz pursued the speeding Thunderbird driven by Odell Breeden of Lubbock who stopped south of Meadow.

Driver and passenger hurt as car crashes into parked vehicle
Lenz issued traffic summonses for no license and speeding while 15-year-old Kucauskas sat in the front seat. The Chevrolet swerved toward Meadow, hit the Thunderbird, and crushed occupants. Rescue crews pried the victims free with a log chain and winch.

Final Rites Held For Two Brothers Hit By Lightning
Funeral services were held for David Adams 11 and Billy 9 after they were struck and killed by lightning on the Lewis W Waters farm Wednesday. Arrangements are by Brownfield Funeral Home with burial in Brownfield cemetery. Survivors include parents Vicente and (mother) and siblings Sallie Vicente Jr 14 and Ronnie. a younger brother Ronnie 6 sought help at the neighboring farm.

Thefts Probed as Police Tie Up Weekend Incidents
Police investigated two motor vehicle accidents and three thefts over the weekend. Eight persons were arrested for various offenses including drunkenness and DWI, with several individuals arraigned on charges of drunkenness and aggravated assault. McCallister Promoted in Germany During Overseas Tour
Bobby B. McCallister, husband of Linda McCallister of 1304 East Lons, has been promoted to specialist four while serving with the 4th Armored Division in Germany. He is a driver in Battery C of the division’s 14th Artillery, entered the Army in March 1961, arrived overseas in November, and trained at Fort Hood. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Perry McCallister of Meadow and a 1959 Meadow High School graduate.
