Terry County voters face two state constitutional amendments and a local options election on education district funding this Saturday. By Aug 6 deadline counts, about 75 absentee ballots already cast for the combined amendments local options water district contests. Kelly Moore of Brownfield.
Terry County voters will decide on creating the South Plains Underground Water Conservation District and elect two-year directors. Temporary board members including Lewis Waters and Doyle Moss seek permanent terms as future elections set four-year terms. Also on the ballot are two constitutional amendments Proposition 1 on homestead exemptions and Proposition 2 allowing up to 300 million in HEAB bonds for student loans.
Brownfield Chamber of Commerce directors approved changes to the All Roads Lead Home Harvest Festival including larger Queen Candidate and float prize pools, added club support payments, and a moved Queen entry deadline to Friday Aug 9. The plan also adds Terry County 4-H as a new represented club with sponsoring member rules.
August 7 1991 Terry County seeks nominations for Outstanding Farm Family or Farmer Dryland Farmer of the Year Outstanding Young Farmer and Agribusiness Award. Nominations due by August 30 with a Sept 5 committee selection. Send to Terry Soil and Water Conservation District 201 E Hill.

Babe Ruth All Stars compete at Regionals with a Tuesday game against New Mexico at Brownfield. If they win, they face the East Texas Oklahoma winner at 8 p.m. They opened with a 6-5 win over South Texas from Flax, then lost to a Louisiana team in extra innings. Martinez praised the team’s effort and noted a 1-1 tie through seven before five runs were scored. The 13 year old squad also lost both Prep League regional games in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
