Funeral services for W. G. Curtis in Meadow
Funeral services were held for 71 year old Meadow farmer W. G. Curtis at 3 p.m. Monday in the Meadow Church of Christ with Adrian McElroy officiating. Burial followed in Meadow Cemetery. Curtis died Saturday in Lubbock after six months illness. Survivors include his wife, three sons August Arthur and Freeman, two daughters Mrs. Hendricks and Mrs. Collins, two brothers, two sisters, 22 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Legionnaires to hear convention report in monthly meeting
American Legion members will hear a report on the State convention in Houston at their regular Thursday meeting in the Legion Hall. Post Commander Lynn Nelson and others attended the convention and will summarize proceedings, including that the 1954 convention will be in Fort Worth and L. E. Page of Carthage was elected Department of Texas Commander.

Lang resigns as judge Herb Chesshir to succeed him
County Judge Leonard Lang announced his resignation on Saturday and named Herb Chesshir as his successor for the remaining 17 months of the term. Chesshir, 74, has held multiple posts including Tax Collector Assessor and Brownfield city secretary, and is active in civic and church work.

Meadow Farmers Aid Friends After Auto Crash Farming Help
Frank Brown and Willie Wright, injured in an auto-truck collision south of Big Spring, receive help from Meadow area friends who cultivated all 800 acres in cotton. Wright is hospitalized in Dallas with a broken neck, Brown in Big Spring with a broken jaw and shoulder, and Max Kiser suffers foot amputation. A Mexican laborer accompanied them home after the crash as two gravel trucks racing caused the collision. Twenty-eight tractors with four row equipment aided Brown and Wright across 800 acres. A long list of neighbors assisted with driving and equipment as the injured trio recovers.

Fire Destroys Home On Levelland Highway
Brownfields most serious fire in weeks destroys the three room home of Ben Story on Levelland road about a mile from Brownfield. Story was inside and could not save belongings. A nearby small building escaped damage and a second residence three miles south on Foster road sustained slight fire damage. Origin of the blaze remains undetermined.
